Directions: Cast your vote for the best function analogy. Go to the Function Analogy page and pick which function you like the best. Note the number that corresponds to this function. Cast your vote here by doing the following.
1. Click Edit Page.
2. Scroll down on this page to the number that corresponds to the analogy for which you want to vote.
3. Type your "cyber-signature" on that line. You do this by typing 4 tildes with no spaces between. A tilde looks like ~. Remember when you do this, your wiki username will appear instead of the tildes once you click Save.
4. Go to the Discussion tab. If no discussion is started for the function analogy that you voted for, start one with a subject called "Support for Analogy # " with the appropriate number for that analogy. If someone has started a discussion in support of the analogy that you are voting for, then you need to join that discussion.
Discussion Guidelines
1. Be positive. You can disagree with people but be objective and well-mannered.
2. This is the opportunity to say what you know about functions. Saying, "I like the analogy about pizza, because pizza rocks." does not reveal that you have knowledge of the abstract nature of functions.
3. Comparing it to another analogy shows critical thinking. It might help to read a few discussions to get a feel for functions.
Definition: The first person who can post the definition of a function here gets one point extra credit. The first two people after that to find and post a link to a good wesbite about functions that supports the definition will also get 1 point extra credit
A function is a relation, rule or mapping in which all the elements of the domain match up with exactly one element in the range.- IMPeachy Nov 29, 2007
Cuttheknot.org - this website tells you all about the history of functions and pretty much anything you want to find out about functions. They also give good links of other goof function websites. - balletgirl30691 Nov 28, 2007 http://www.purplemath.com/modules/fcns.htm- also is a really good website for functions vs. relations. - ilovefh1 Nov 30, 2007
